Running... and even some Cycling!

I did ten and a half miles yesterday afternoon and felt good about it too. It amazes me that ten miles has become an amount to simply go out and do, I've never been above 6 miles for that sort of attitude before now. It's a good thing though as I was feeling really tired and was concerned that it would be a duff run, it turned out very differently. I did the first three miles quite hard, still about ten minute miling, but it was almost all uphill so I was really rather pleased with that - it was hard work, but I was determined to do it. I then walked a few a few minutes to gather myself and get my breath back before completing the rest of the distance using the 9 minute 1 minute pattern as usual. I was amazed when I had finished to see that I had completed the distance in exactly ten minute miling time, complete with walk breaks, so I must have been running faster than ten minute miles during the run sections. It didn't feel like it though, it felt good. I'm very pleased about that bit, I've surprised myself!

I was going to go out on my bike yesterday morning, but it snowed. Only for about an hour, typically the very hour that I wanted to be out there. However, it was pretty heavy, it settled on the road and I didn't fancy it much at all - preferring to stay in one piece! Still, I managed to get out there this morning, having put on the ridiculous amount of clothing required for winter cycling first. I just did three quarters of an hour, but it was great to just be out on a bike, it's been far too long. My first triathlon of the year is at the end of this month! Argh! Oh well, the running is the focus at the moment, so I'll just go and do my best on the day and hopefully enjoy it.
