I stopped the umming and ahing today and took the plunge - both literally and metaphorically. I got myself out of bed and along to Scissett Baths in time for the Sunday morning swim training run by the tri club. I thought about it last year but wasn't brave enough, but now I'm fairly confident that my swimming is up to scratch. Well, that and the fact that I now know that the club is properly inclusive and wouldn't care if I was a much worse swimmer than I am. Still, I was a little nervous as I drove out there - ready for 8a.m.! On a Sunday! Anyway, I was too early, so I'll know for next time not to set off quite so early.
There were four lanes representing four abilities and I started in the third but quickly realised I'd be better in the second. I really enjoyed having the form to the session and the push to keep going because what to do was prescribed. We did a warm up swim, a few stretches and then a varied set of exercises. We did catch-ups (far more than I'd have been able to talk myself into on my own!), fast sets (again more than I'd do if left to my own devices) and work on kicking only. I really enjoyed it, oh, and a cool down at the end. In total I swam 2250m, really enjoyed doing it and found it within my range but pushing me to get on more than I would just doing it on my own. I will definitely go again. Great start to the day!
