I'm glad that I managed to get a bit of a rest before the weekend began. It has been rather manic, I had a vast amount of work to do, mountains of washing and quite a bit of training to fit in too. Mind you, I've about done now and the curry's on order, so it ends well!
Anyway, going back a bit. I didn't do a great deal on Thursday, mainly due to an afternoon meeting. However, I did manage to get four miles of running in before work. So, at least I'd done something.
I took Friday as a rest day as I was feeling very tired. I didn't really have any motivation to train and felt that this was probably giving me a message that I should heed. So i spent the afternoon pottering at home in stead, getting a few bits and pieces done at a more leisurely speed than is usually possible.
Yesterday was more of a proper training day. I was up and out early to run before the day really got going. It was something of a shock to the system - the weather had been unseasonably warm of late and it was nearly ten degrees when I ran on Thursday morning. Not so yesterday - a massive drop to minus two! I could certainly tell the difference. Mainly I noticed how long it took for my fingers to warm up, although running mile repeats sorted that out. As soon as I added the harder effort (greater speed) some warmth found its way back into my fingertips. I did a warm up, 5 mile repeats with walk breaks between them and then ran home, clocking up a total distance of 8.3 miles. I was very glad to have done it, not sure how happy I was earlier on though. It always seems like such a big deal to go out for a hard work set like that. But you do get the advantage of being pleased that you stuck with it once it's done. I also swam later with Daniel, just to keep him company in his efforts.
This morning began with 2 hours on the indoor training bike, also followed by going swimming to keep Daniel company. I'm really impressed with him for getting himself there twice in the same weekend. He was doing pretty well too, he nearly managed a full length of front crawl today, it won't be at all long before he does it.
