Back in the Swim

I was back at swim training today for the first time in a while. Certainly the first one of the New Year. It was really good to be back in the water. This is probably going to sound odd, but sometimes I forget how much I like swimming until I'm actually in the water. For a while it looked like we wouldn't get our swim as nobody turned up to open the pool, we were half an hour late by the time we actually managed to get in. So we condensed the session, still doing some of each drill but not doing as many sets. We did board taps and pulls and kicks today. Then the pool decided to let us run over our allotted time by 20 minutes to compensate for most of what we'd lost. Morgan had three of us, including me, trialling one of his new toys - a wetronome! It was an odd little thing that fitted into my swim cap near my ear and beeped when I was supposed to be at the wall and ready to turn at the end of a length. The idea being to encourage you to swim at an even and steady pace. A bit like doing a running beep test except it didn't keep getting faster! It was still rather stressful once you fell behind, because then I knew I wouldn't make the next one on time either. Good fun though, I could see how that could be useful. So, after 50 minutes good training, I got out feeling cheery and ready to face the day. Good stuff!
