Second Pair

I bought 2 pairs of trainers when I started training for the marathon and decided to wear one for 300 miles, then alternate them and try and actually do things properly for once in my life. My usual trick is to lose track of how far I've gone in them and to end up slightly injured and wondering why when my shoes are worn out. Today I got a good lesson in how easy that is to do. My first pair of shoes still look barely worn, a bit dirtier than the unworn pair, but that's the only outward difference. What was very interesting was how different the unworn pair felt when I put them on. They felt so much more cushioned and padded! Just shows, you don't realise the wear that you are putting into your shoes, but that contrast has made me think. I probably do need to keep up the effort to pay attention to how far each pair of shoes has gone and replace them at the right time even if they look okay.

As for my run itself, it went much better this morning. I did the 4 mile route that had originally been intended for Friday. It felt pretty easy to do today, I felt comfortable (apart from still having a snotty nose - hmph!). I completed it in under 40 minutes, always a good sign for me and got back feeling good for having done that first thing in the morning. A good way to start the day, a good way to start the week.
